THEMATIC AREA PSC 1 – RESEARCH AND INNOVATION, ACTION EX POR FESR 1.1.4 – “Inclusive modular systems for managing indoor comfort through the development of sensorized and interactive sound-absorbing panels”

Project title: Inclusive modular systems for managing indoor comfort through the development of sensorized and interactive sound-absorbing panels (in Italian, Sistemi modulari Inclusivi per la gestione del confort ambientale attraverso lo Sviluppo di pannelli fonoassorbenti Sensorizzati e Interattivi)

Project description: the SISSI project proposes an innovative, inclusive and technologically augmented system for the optimal management of comfort, not only lighting but environmental comfort as a whole. The system is based on interactive sound-absorbing panels, as an alternative or an addition to the traditional techniques on the market, built into furnishing elements that divide and shape spaces in homes, offices and services, including schools and hospitals; it will make shared spaces fully usable and safe, also for people with disabilities. The new interactive panels analyze in real time the physical and environmental parameters related to comfort (temperature, humidity, air speed, noise, lighting, etc.) and the overall movements of the human body and its gestures within a sensorized environment, process them and relate them to a given thermo-hygrometric, sound and/or visual reference. In developing the new sound-absorbing panels, particular attention was paid to assessing the expressive qualities of gestures, which can convey important emotional meanings of the people in the space.

The project is promoted by a group of small and medium-sized enterprises in collaboration with research institutions of the Veneto region. This collaboration was essential for the R&D work and for building the prototypes, and it will help strengthen the competitiveness of all the SMEs involved in the project.

The project results were presented in July 2024 at the conference “Innovazioni nel design di pannelli fonoassorbenti intelligenti” (Innovations in the design of smart sound-absorbing panels) at the University of Padua.
